Our History

The Hakka Alliance Church is a church plant of Scarborough Community Alliance Church, and is designed as an outreach to Hakka speaking people of all ages in the GTA. We began as the Hakka Family Fellowship on November 3, 2007 meeting at Scarborough Community Alliance Church. Since then we have only begun by God's grace to understand His will for us, that is, to plant a (Meixian) Hakka speaking church in the GTA in order to bring Hakka people to Christ, and to nurture them in the faith. Since the majority of the immigrants whose language of preference is Hakka is above the age of 50, we accepted that this work will have a first appeal to first generation Hakka speakers. We also accepted that this work may include a younger first generation cohort and their families which would necessitate a portion of the ministry to be in English.

Over the next year, God blessed the Fellowship with more than 20 souls saved by His great grace, and God spoke again in prompting us towards our next step. On October 4, 2009, we officially started Sunday Services as Hakka Alliance Church. We meet every week on Sunday from 3:30 pm to 5 pm. Simultaneously, the Eastern Canadian District of the Christian and Missionary Alliance and the Canadian Chinese Alliance Churches Association (CCACA) became financial partners with us. Similarly, in January 2010, First Alliance Church also came on board as financial partners in this great task of winning souls for Christ. We became firmly convicted of our goals over the next five years, and that is to share the gospel with those who are not yet believers, to strengthen with fellowship and God's Word those who are, and to mobilize Hakka speaking Christians to reach out to other Hakka speaking people with the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.

On February 28, 2010, the Hakka Alliance Church was officially commissioned by the Eastern Canadian District of the C&MA, and Rev. Dr. Timothy Quek was appointed as the first senior pastor. As the strength of the ministry grew, so did the congregation, and the search for a Hakka-speaking senior pastor to relieve Rev. Quek (who was also the senior pastor of Scarborough Community Alliance) was undertaken with much prayer and expectation. On June 6, 2011, Mr. Clifford Li was called as the second senior pastor of Hakka Alliance, with Rev. Quek taking the role as Pastoral Consultant.
